The current KNMV calendar includes:
3 October 2026: Vorden, ONK Enduro
17 October 2026: Tubbergen, ONK Enduro
24 October 2026: Harfsen, ONK Enduro
31 October 2026: Zelhem, ONK Enduro
20 and 21 November 2026: Hellendoorn, ONK Enduro Championship Event

OTR stands for Off The Road. An OTR ride is an organised off-road event where you ride a suitable motorcycle or quad bike along a marked route, mainly over unpaved terrain.
This can include:
sandy tracks
forest roads
agricultural tracks
meadows
arable fields
woodland trails
temporarily accessible private land
An OTR ride is not the same as a motocross race. Regular off-road rides are primarily about enjoying a scenic and challenging route rather than setting the fastest lap time.
For MON off-road events, for example, routes may include both paved and unpaved public and private roads and land, with a preference for unpaved sections wherever possible. Permission from the landowner is required to use private land.
The terms OTR, off-road and enduro are often used interchangeably. However, there are some clear differences.
An OTR or off-road ride is primarily about recreational and sporting riding along a marked route over unpaved terrain. You usually follow the route independently or with friends, encountering different surfaces and obstacles along the way.
One of the best things about an OTR ride is the opportunity to explore places where motorcycles are not normally permitted. Organisers arrange temporary permission from landowners and provide a signposted route.
Enduro is an officially recognised motorsport discipline in which participants follow a predetermined route across terrain including unpaved roads, agricultural fields and woodland areas. ONK Enduro features different competition classes and competitive racing.
Enduro is therefore generally more competitive and technically demanding than a recreational OTR ride.
Motocross takes place on a purpose-built circuit. Unlike an OTR route, a motocross track features permanent corners, jumps and obstacles, with riders competing against each other in heats.
For riders who simply want to cover plenty of miles across unpaved terrain, an OTR ride is often one of the most accessible ways to discover off-road riding.
This is an important consideration for every off-road rider.
In the Netherlands, you cannot simply ride your motorcycle into a forest, meadow or along a sandy track. Much of this land is privately owned or subject to restrictions on motorised vehicles.
That's precisely why organised OTR rides are so popular. Organisers obtain permission to use the land that temporarily forms part of the route. For MON off-road events, for example, access to private roads and land depends on the owner's permission.
An official OTR ride therefore gives you the opportunity to explore different types of off-road terrain legally and as part of an organised event.
An off-road, enduro or dual-sport motorcycle is generally the most suitable choice for an OTR ride.
Important characteristics include:
sufficient ground clearance
good suspension
knobbly tyres
low weight
adequate engine and sump protection
suitable seating and handlebar positions for standing while riding
A lightweight enduro bike is ideal when the route becomes technical and muddy. A dual-sport motorcycle can be an attractive option for riders who want to use their bike both on public roads and off-road.
The best motorcycle for you mainly depends on the type of terrain, your experience and how many miles you intend to cover on the road.
Good preparation makes an off-road ride much more enjoyable.
At a minimum, bring the following:
sufficient fuel
sturdy handguards
sump protection
suitable off-road tyres
tyre repair kit
basic tools
secure mounting for any luggage
good-quality enduro or off-road helmet
goggles
boots
gloves
knee and elbow protection
body armour
suitable off-road clothing
For longer rides, a compact waist pack, rucksack or soft luggage can be useful. Keep the weight as low as possible and make sure everything is securely attached.
More and more adventure riders are discovering OTR rides as a way to become more familiar with their motorcycles and develop their riding skills.
However, a heavy adventure motorcycle requires a different approach from a lightweight enduro bike. Sand, deep ruts and mud can be particularly challenging.
A few important tips:
Look ahead rather than directly in front of your front wheel.
Stand on the footpegs regularly for greater control.
Keep your arms relaxed.
Allow the motorcycle to move beneath you.
Use your legs to help steer the motorcycle.
Adjust your speed to suit the terrain.
Keep your luggage as light and low as possible.
With the right technique, even a heavier adventure motorcycle can be surprisingly versatile off-road.
The full Dutch OTR calendar for spring 2027 has not yet been officially finalised. We therefore prefer not to present unconfirmed dates as part of an official calendar.
The Dutch calendar is updated throughout the season by organising clubs, KNMV and MON. Enduro.nl also maintains an up-to-date calendar of enduro and off-road events.
Once the official dates for spring 2027 are confirmed, this calendar can be updated.
Planning to ride in spring 2027? Keep an eye on the event calendars published by KNMV, MON and Enduro.nl.
In the Netherlands, KNMV and MON are the two main organisations you'll encounter when looking for official off-road and enduro events.
KNMV organises events including ONK Enduro and also publishes an official off-road calendar.
MON focuses on grassroots motorsport and organises various motorsport activities, including off-road rides. Under certain conditions, you can also apply for a one-day licence for an off-road event through MON. According to MON, this day licence is intended for participation in off-road rides or Cross Country events, not Dutch National Championship (NK) races.
Always check which licence, insurance and vehicle documents are required for the specific event before taking part.
OTR stands for Off The Road. An OTR ride is an organised event that takes place mainly on unpaved roads and terrain.
Entry requirements vary by event. Always check the organiser's conditions beforehand. These may include a motorcycle driving licence, insurance, a competition licence or day pass, and specific technical requirements.
Yes, but the type of motorcycle and the difficulty of the route are important. A lightweight enduro bike is easier to handle on technical terrain, while an adventure motorcycle is generally better suited to wider, less technical routes.
A regular OTR ride is generally not a competition. You follow a marked route, with the emphasis on enjoying off-road riding. Enduro, on the other hand, is an officially recognised competitive motorsport with different classes.
For the latest information, check the official event calendars published by KNMV and MON. Enduro.nl also publishes an up-to-date calendar of Dutch enduro and off-road rides.
Autumn is traditionally a great time for off-road riding in the Netherlands. The combination of sand, forests, mud and agricultural land makes these rides challenging and varied. Particularly when the weather changes, a relatively straightforward route can quickly become a demanding technical challenge.
Plan your ride, check the entry requirements in advance and make sure your motorcycle and riding gear are in good condition.
