We hear this question almost every day at Powersportcenter.nl. And it's understandable, as the terms sound very similar and both vehicles offer endless riding fun. Many people have even driven a quad or buggy while on holiday in the sun, but aren't entirely sure what the differences are.
In this article, we'll explain everything step by step, helping you decide which vehicle suits you best: an agile ATV or a rugged SSV/UTV.
An ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) is commonly referred to as a quad. This compact, sporty vehicle has four wheels, a saddle-style seat and handlebars. You accelerate using a thumb throttle or twist grip, similar to a motorcycle.
An ATV has a completely open design. This adds to the sense of freedom and adventure, but also makes protective clothing and a good-quality helmet absolutely essential.
An SSV (Side-by-Side Vehicle) or UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) is commonly known as a side-by-side. You sit inside the vehicle, next to your passenger, in comfortable bucket seats or on a bench seat. Instead of handlebars, you use a steering wheel, just like in a car.
An SSV or UTV usually features a roll cage, seat belts and sometimes even a roof. These features help many drivers feel safer and more comfortable during off-road adventures.

Can I drive an SSV on public roads? This depends on the model and its registration status. We'll be happy to advise you on the available road registration options.
